Leeds United are an English football club who typically reside in the Premier League or the EFL Championship and play their home games at Elland Road. Their nickname is the Whites.
📜 Leeds United History
Leeds United were formed in 1919 as a successor to the disbanded Leeds City. City had formed in 1904, but they were expelled from the Football League amid allegations they made illegal payments to players during World War I, as the Football Association had issued a ban on paying players in 1915.
Much of the club's history has been spent in the top flight, and the Whites have 3 First Division titles to their name, most recently in 1992. Other domestic honours include an FA Cup in 1972 and the League Cup in 1968.
Leeds also have a proud history of competing in European football too; along with 2 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup titles, a competition which was a precursor to the UEFA Europa League, Leeds were also runners-up in the European Cup in 1975 and the UEFA Cup Winner's Cup in 1973. The Yorkshire outfit also reached the UEFA Champions League semifinals in 2001.
