The Japan Cup is one of the most prestigious horse racing meetings in Japan contested annually on the last Sunday of November at Tokyo Racecourse in Fuchu, Tokyo.
The feature race is the Japan Cup which is an invitational event - allowing local racehorses the opportunity to compete against horses of international calibre - first run in 1981. Despite a relatively short history, the race has established itself as a high-profile international contest with winners from Japan, North America, Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, France, Germany, and Italy. Along with the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, Melbourne Cup, and the Breeders' Cup, the race is one of the great end-of-season events.
