The Vuelta a España (23 August-14 September 2025) route has been officially unveiled, and it promises to deliver a thrilling mix of tradition, innovation, and breathtaking landscapes. From the rugged mountains to the rolling coastlines, the 80th edition of this prestigious Grand Tour will challenge riders with its diverse and demanding parcours while showcasing the beauty of Spain.
Having said that, the Gran Salida on Saturday 23 August 2025 sets off from the Palazzo di Venaria Reale in Turin, Italy. The following 3 stages also take place in northern Italy with the spectacular backdrop of the Alps before the riders transfer to Spain for the remainder of the tour.
At no point does the race go south of Madrid; instead concentrating on the northern regions of Aragon, La Rioja, Navarre, the Basque Country, Cantabria, Galicia, and Castilla y León, as well as a brief stop in Andorra for Stage 6 and Stage 7. The aim of the route’s planning was to pay homage to some of the race’s historic climbs and mountain passes, and there’s no lack of challenging hilly stages.
That is not to say that next year’s race is entirely for the climbers. The opening and closing stages are both flat and a sprinter is likely to take the win.
Other key stages include an early team time trial at Stage 5 in Figueres on 27 August and the thrilling individual time trial at Stage 18 on 11 September which takes place in Valladolid, the city that hosted the iconic race’s first ever finish line in 1935; a noteworthy tribute for the special anniversary.
Although it’s too early to confirm the full list of participants, fans can expect the world’s top riders to vie for glory. Defending champion Primož Roglič, as well as perennial contenders like Jonas Vingegaard, and Remco Evenepoel are likely to target the race, adding intrigue to an already captivating route.
The Vuelta a España 2025 promises an unforgettable journey through Spain, blending the sport’s competitive spirit with the country’s rich cultural tapestry. With its challenging stages, iconic landmarks, and unpredictable drama, the race is poised to deliver yet another epic edition of cycling’s Grand Tours.
