Nothing compares to watching your own team live, but it can nevertheless be a highly rewarding experience visiting other clubs and grounds as a neutral – without the risk of the potential heartbreak of a defeat – particularly if the team you’re watching plays some thrilling football or boasts some world-class players. If you’re not local, or simply don’t otherwise get the chance to go very often, getting that Premier League experience can be all the more meaningful too. As one of the world’s most exciting football leagues, you can see some talented players and a good game of football wherever you choose to go, but some teams – with iconic venues, rich histories, and world-class play – stand out as top candidates to consider.

Arsenal at Emirates Stadium, London
Arsenal have not only been ever-presents in the Premier League since its foundation in 1992, but they hold the remarkable record of having been mainstays of the English top flight since 1919. The Gunners have been remarkably consistent in the Premier League era, having only finished outside the division’s top 4 on a handful of occasions, and among their 3 Premier League titles is one of English football’s most impressive achievements, their “Invincibles” unbeaten season in 2003-04. Managed by Mikel Arteta and with an exciting squad featuring the likes of Bukayo Saka, Martin Ødegaard, and Gabriel Jesus, Arsenal have returned to title contention in recent years, and it’s going to be a party to remember when they finally get over the line again.

Newcastle United at St. James’ Park, Newcastle
While silverware has been hard to come by for many years at St. James’ Park – the Magpies last won a major honour in 1969 – Newcastle United have had a significant role to play for much of the Premier League era, whether they’ve been competing at the top end of the table or at the bottom. Nicknamed “the Entertainers” for their thrilling football under manager Kevin Keegan during the 1990s, Newcastle have boasted some of the Premier League’s most iconic players over the years including Alan Shearer, David Ginola, and Andy Cole. Today, the Magpies’ star has been on the rise again in recent campaigns, with a top-4 finish in 2022-23, while in 2023-24 goals were flying in at both ends as they scored 85 and conceded 62. What’s more, St. James’ Park, with its unrivalled atmosphere, is undoubtedly one of the Premier League’s most iconic grounds, located at the heart of a city that leaves and breathes football – a must-visit for any fan.

Liverpool at Anfield, Liverpool
One of the most storied clubs not just in English football but across the world, Liverpool boast a global fanbase of loyal supporters who would jump at the chance to belt out a rendition of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” from Anfield’s iconic Kop End. The Reds ended their 30-year wait for a league title in 2019-20 and for much of their recent history they’ve been the big challengers to Manchester City’s dominance atop the table, exceeding 90 points on 3 occasions since 2019. Liverpool are entering a new era following manager Jurgen Klopp’s departure with an exciting squad containing the likes of Diogo Jota, Darwin Núñez, and Dominik Szoboszlai among their leading lights, and you could be there to witness it.

Manchester United at Old Trafford, Manchester
Although their fortunes have dipped somewhat since the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, Manchester United are the undisputed kings of the Premier League era. The Red Devils have collected 13 league titles in that time, overtaking bitter rivals Liverpool in the running as the English team with the most top-flight honours. While they’re still rebuilding toward becoming title challengers once again, they’ve continued to pick up trophies both domestically and in Europe. When it comes to watching Premier League football, watching Manchester United at Old Trafford is always a big occasion – doubly so if you’re a United fan who’s long desired to see them in action at the Theatre of Dreams!

Manchester City at Etihad Stadium, Manchester
Once written off by Sir Alex Ferguson as United’s “noisy neighbours,” Manchester City have proved themselves to be much more than that. Following title wins in 2012 and 2014 under Roberto Mancini and Manuel Pellegrini, respectively, the Sky Blues have become the team to beat in the Premier League under manager Pep Guardiola since his arrival in 2016. The Catalan coach has transformed the Citizens into a dominant force winning trophy after trophy, including an unprecedented 4 league titles in a row between 2021 and 2024. Along the way, they’ve played some of the most scintillating football the Premier League has ever seen, delivered by world-class players such as Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri, and Erling Haaland. Watching in person, you can appreciate the remarkable technical display even more than at home.
