Visiting Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough is a small port town along the River Tees just a few kilometres inland of England’s breezy North East Coast. The town is known for its industrial bridges; the giant Transporter Bridge, which transports people and cars from one side to the other by a gondola suspended above the river, and the Newport Bridge, an impressive historic vertical lift bridge. It’s also the proud birthplace of Captain James Cook, the famous explorer who discovered many of the world’s Pacific countries. His memory is still honoured today at the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum. With the Durham Heritage Coast to the north and North York Moors National Park to the south, Middlesbrough is sandwiched between some of the country’s most scenic landscapes, making it a great base from which to immerse in nature and explore the North East.
