Middlesbrough Football Club are a professional football club based in Middlesbrough, England. Also known simply as Boro, they compete at Riverside Stadium.
📜 Middlesbrough History
Boro were founded in 1876 by local cricketers searching for a way to keep fit and occupied during the winter, as many clubs in English football were at the time.
It was in their centenary year that the club earned its first major silverware, when they picked up the Anglo-Scottish Cup in 1976.
Middlesbrough developed a penchant for reaching cup finals in the 1990s; they reached both the FA Cup and League Cup finals in 1997 and the latter again the following season, but lost on all 3 occasions. They ended their wait for another trophy in 2004 when they reached the League Cup final for a third time, this time picking up a 2-1 win over Bolton Wanderers.
In 2006, Boro went on an impressive run to the UEFA Cup final, coming from 3-0 down against Basel and then Steaua Bucharest in the quarterfinals and semifinals respectively, but they were unable to overcome UEFA Cup specialists Sevilla in the final, which they lost 4-0.
