📍 Where To Stay

Edinburgh Old Town is home to most of the city’s biggest draws, including Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile – perfect for those who want to be in the heart of the action. This is also where all of the festivities unfold during the famous Fringe comedy festival.

Edinburgh New Town may not have as many historical landmarks, but it is closer to the train station for easy access around the city and beyond, and the city’s best shops are on its doorstep.

With picturesque Georgian townhouses and a meandering stream, Dean Village offers a tranquil escape from the bustling centre for families. Yet, it’s just a 20 minute walk to the Old Town, and a 15 minute walk to the New Town.

The upmarket Stockbridge is also lined with fancy Georgian townhouses, but as it’s best known for its concentration of cool independent eateries and Sunday outdoor food market, it's most suited to foodies.

Meanwhile, situated on the other side of Edinburgh’s Old Town, Southside, Bruntsfield, and The Meadows are where you’ll find the city’s coolest shops, bars, and clubs.

As Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh is a fairly expensive city to visit, especially during the summer months when it hosts the Fringe festival. In order to avoid being stung by skyrocketing prices, make sure you book your accommodation well in advance of your trip.

About Easter Road

Easter Road is a football stadium located in Edinburgh, Scotland. It is the home of Hibernian, also known simply as Hibs. Hibs fans affectionately refer to the stadium as "The Leith San Siro" and "The Holy Ground."

📜 History

The stadium opened with a friendly between Hibs and Clyde in 1893. The club almost moved grounds on several occasions during their early history, as the venue – which Hibs were only renting – had been earmarked for future development by Edinburgh city planners.

Hibs considered relocating to Aberdeen in 1902, but the following year Aberdeen FC was formed when 3 local clubs merged, and in 1909 work began on a new ground before it was decided a railway would be built on the site.

In 1922, Hibs acquired a 25-year lease on Easter Road, and with its long-term future secured work finally began on redeveloping the stadium to accommodate more fans.

As the club enjoyed post-war success, the stadium was expanded to accommodate their increasing popularity, and in 1980 Easter Road became the first stadium in Scotland to install undersoil heating.

Major redevelopment followed in 1995 as the club moved to being an all-seater venue, and in 2010 the East Stand was demolished and replaced to expand Easter Road's capacity.

During the late 1990s, it was also briefly the home of Edinburgh Rugby.
