Hibernian FC, often known simply as Hibs, are a professional football club based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Their home ground is Easter Road.
📜 Hibernian FC History
Hibernian were founded in 1875 by a group of Irish immigrants based in Edinburgh's Cowgate area. The founders took the club's name from Hibernia, the Latin name for Ireland, and chose green as the club's primary colour.
Despite some initial sectarian opposition to the presence of an "Irish" team in Scottish football – and some mismanagement that meant Hibs temporarily ceased operating in 1891 – the club enjoyed some early success and had picked up a league title and 2 Scottish Cups by 1903.
Their most illustrious period came in the post-war years, with the celebrated "Famous Five" forward line of Willie Ormond, Bobby Johnstone, Eddie Turnbull, Gordon Smith, and Lawrie Reilly leading the team to 3 league championships between 1948 and 1952.
Hibs ended a 114-year drought in the Scottish Cup in 2016 as they triumphed 3-2 over Rangers in the final.
