Although Switzerland’s most famous sportsperson is tennis player Roger Federer, its most-loved sport is in fact football. Geneva is home to Swiss Super League football team Servette FC, who are based at Stade Geneve, and Servette FC Chenois Feminin who play in the top tier of women’s football. Lions de Geneve, a Swiss Basketball League team who play their home games at Pavillon des Sports, are also very popular.

Geneva is an affluent Swiss city that sits on Lake Geneva at the mouth of the Rhone River. It overlooks the dusty-white Jura Mountains to the east and the Alps to the west, with its 140-metre-tall water fountain acting as a proud centrepiece. Home to the United Nations European Headquarters, Geneva is highly international with an aristocratic sensibility and a taste for the finer things in life. But while it’s cosmopolitan at heart, Geneva itself serves a delicious slice of Gothic and Neoclassical architecture. As a tax haven, Geneva is loaded with designer shops and specialist Swiss watchmakers, said to be the finest in the world. Yet, the smaller Geneva neighbourhoods beautifully juxtapose the commercial Old Town by exuding a rousing creative and bohemian atmosphere.
