Sofia Kenin is a Russian-American tennis player.
Born in Moscow in 1998, Kenin's family moved to the USA whilst she was still a baby, settling in New York and then Florida. A prodigious talent since the age of 5, Kenin quickly began getting professional tennis lessons, and she topped multiple age-grade rankings throughout her teenage years. Kenin had a successful ITF Juniors career, including many impressive performances in girls' Grand Slam main draws; she made her senior ITF debut aged 15.
Whilst still technically a junior, Kenin made her Grand Slam debut in 2015, at the US Open. Despite losing her first round match, she would appear at the tournament again the following year but she once again failed to advance to the second round. In 2017, however, it was third time lucky for Kenin, as she won her first 2 matches of the US Open main draw, making it to the third round, where she was defeated by Maria Sharapova.
After recording those 2 US Open match wins - her first on the WTA tour - Kenin's game and ranking improved: in 2018 she entered the top-100, reached her first WTA semifinal, won her debut match at Wimbledon, and finished the year inside the top-50. The following year, the American picked-up her first WTA singles title in Hobart, Australia, and then swiftly added to her tally, collecting trophies in Mallorca (Spain) and Guangzhou (China). In what was arguably her breakthrough year, Kenin finished the year inside the WTA top-15. Kenin's rise did not stop there however; in the 2020 season she won the Australian Open aged just 21, becoming the youngest American woman to win a Grand Slam singles title since 2002, when Serena Williams won her first US Open. Off the back of her Grand Slam win, Kenin rose to number 7 in the WTA singles rankings, a ranking she bettered just months later, rising to number 4 after winning the Lyon Open. Despite the 2020 season being interrupted by the Coronavirus pandemic, Kenin managed to retain her good form, reaching the final of Roland-Garros, where she was defeated by Iga Świątek.
Sofia Kenin primarily plays from the back of the court, but the has a more varied game than most outright baseline players: she is strong off both the forehand and backhand sides, and her use of disguise is among the best on the women's tour. Her eclectic game allows her to catch opponents off-guard and play aggressively, which is well-suited to counter-attacking against similarly attack-minded players, as well as over-powering more defensive ones.
Small event compared to Brisbane international but good tennis and very helpfull support staff. We had no idea where we were going on the first day. Courtside Club was a great spot but not for the night session due to sun going down though for maybe 30mins a level.
Book early for the best prices as well.

Stadium well sign posted and easy to move around. Ground staff very helpful and friendly.
Despite the umpires asking for quiet during play, the noise from the corporate areas was very loud and ongoing. Perhaps those hosting in the corporate boxes could brief their guests of common protocols at such events.
Other than that very enjoyable.
I absolutely loved your facilities , the tennis and the overall experience for my two days, for the $10 ground pass it was amazing value for money, on the Wednesday I had booked my seats, fabulous, I feel I am able to make these statements as I have the AO to compare as I have attended there for many days.
We regularly attend the Saturday evening semi-finals of the Brisbane International. This year though the schedule was changed so that we did not get to see a women's semi final, but instead a very mediocre women's doubles. The doubles was very disappointing and we, like many other people left early.
Everything about the tournament was absolutely amazing 🤩
