The Grand National Festival is an exhilarating 3-day meeting in the UK jump racing calendar. Held annually in April, the event showcases the finest steeplechase horses and is the most valuable jump race in Europe with up to £1 million in prize money.
The fantastic fixture originated in 1839 at the running of its most famous race: the Grand National. The tough steeplechase with up to 40 riders jumping 30 huge fences is watched by an estimated 600 million people worldwide. The recognisable names of the obstacles, Becher’s Brook and The Chair, not to mention great winners such as Red Rum show the popularity of the historic race. The National’s fame and universal entertainment value make it popular among people who do not normally watch or bet on horse racing.
The Grand National Festival takes place from 8-10 April 2027 with the big race on the final day.
