The Mexico national football team has a rich history in the game stretching back to their first international fixture back in 1923. Also known as El Tri (the Tricolor), Mexico have been the dominant force in North and Central America over the years, picking up many CONCACAF Championship and Gold Cup titles, often beating their neighbours and rivals the United States to do so. They also won the FIFA Confederations Cup in 1999, and since 1993 they have regularly been invited to participate in the Copa America. During that same period, they have consistently been ranked among the world's top 20 teams by FIFA, peaking as high as 4th on several occasions.
