Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic play in the ANZ Premiership, the highest level of competitive netball in New Zealand. The Magic are based Waikato, in the Bay of Plenty region.
The Magic were founded in 1999 to compete in the Coca-Cola Cup (later renamed the National Bank Cup). The team was an amalgamation of 2 existing teams who played in the 1998 edition of the competition, Waikato Wildcats and Bay of Plenty Magic. The National Bank Cup held its final season in 2007, and from 2008 onwards the Magic competed in the ANZ Championship, a trans-Tasman league featuring teams from both New Zealand and Australia. The team won the Grand Final of this competition in 2012, becoming the only team from New Zealand to win an ANZ Championship title.
The ANZ Championship disbanded after the 2016 season, and from 2017 onwards the Australian and New Zealander teams competed separately in their own national league competitions. The Magic became part of the ANZ Premiership, the new netball championship in New Zealand.
In the first 4 seasons of the ANZ Premiership, the highest ranking achieved by the Magic was 4th. The team is yet to reach a Grand Final or win a minor premiership.
The Magic plays most of their home games at Globox Arena in Hamilton.
