📜 Karolína Plíšková History
Karolína Plíšková is not the only professional tennis player in her family: Kristýna, her identical twin sister, is a former top-40 player, and the siblings have played and won several doubles tournaments together.
As a junior, Karolína Plíšková won the 2010 Australian Open girls' title. She won her first WTA-level singles title 3 years later, at the Malaysian Open, and by the end of 2014 she was ranked inside the top-25. Plíšková continued to hone her game, and established herself as a real contender for some of the most coveted trophies in women's tennis; In 2016 she won the Western & Southern Open, and reached the US Open final, and in 2017 reached the semifinals of Roland-Garros. The 2017 season also saw Plíšková become the no-1 ranked singles player in the world. The Czech reached her second grand slam final, at Wimbledon in 2021, eventually succumbing to Ashleigh Barty in 3 sets.
In total, Plíšková has won more than 20 titles across singles and doubles combined. She has an incredibly strong serve, aided by her height, and is noted for her high number of aces - a trait she shares with her twin sister. Plíšková routinely follows-up her serves with potent groundstrokes, preferring to use her forehand if possible. As evidenced by her success in doubles, Plíšková is also an able player at the net, and is capable of serving-and-volleying - though she usually opts to push her opponents round from the baseline.
