Monza is a charmingly traditional Italian city full of duomos, piazzas, and palazzos located just 18 km north of Milan, the nation’s capital city. The Habsburgs would spend their summers in the Royal Villa of Monza in the 18th century, an enchanting neoclassical palace that occupies Monza Park as one of the city’s most cherished buildings. The park, which is the largest enclosed park in Europe, is also home to the Autodromo Nazionale Monza where thousands of F1 fans race each year to watch the Italian Grand Prix. While the mesmerising sights and sounds of Milan are just a short train ride south of Monza, the romantic Lake Como is just a short train ride north. This makes Monza an ideal base for exploring the best of Northern Italy.
I had such a great time at Monza! There was queuing and you definitely need to wear the right shoes but the atmosphere was incredible all weekend. I had an excellent view of the track from Vedano, and it was amazing to feel the power of the cars and all the history of the circuit. I recommend bringing your own food and drink because the wait times were a little long inside the circuit grounds, but you can find such wonderful restaurants and shops in the towns nearby. Every F1 fan should go to Monza at least once if they can!
I totally agree with the previous reviewer - a total organisational farce. I would even go as far as to say that the system of queues to be searched before you 'get in' and then queue to 'get out' in order to queue to get tokens in order to queue to get food/drink and then queue to be searched before you 'get in' again was positively dangerous. It was very hot and access to water was massively time-consuming. Typically Italian??
We went to Monza for atmosphere and experience. great atmosphere, but terrible experience.
Never again
I’ve been attending GPs in the US and Europe for more than 50 years. My wife and I have always bought general admission tickets. We attended the 2022 Italian GP at Monza this weekend. The race might have been great, but we never saw it. The operators of this event failed on most levels. General admission sight lines are completely non-existent and access to tv screens is very limited. We heard the race, but only rarely caught glimpses of any of the cars and we’re clueless as to how the race transpired.
Getting in was frustrating, with long queues for bag checks that stopped for long periods for no apparent reason. Same with ticket scanning.
Lines were stupid long for everything with a poorly executed token system for food that broke down repeatedly. Bad lines for crappy food and beer (that they ran out of). Poorly trained workers enforcing apparently arbitrary corridor and road closures (no signage). Fortunately we stayed nearby because we heard of major transit issues to Milan.
The whole event management was just plain dumb and I feel that my trust in the F1 brand, particularly at this venue, was breached. They apparently have no regard for their customers. I would not recommend this event; there are plenty of other GP events that are more welcoming and provide a much better experience. This was a debacle.
