Rugby is particularly prominent in Limerick, with Munster Rugby, one of the country's most successful and popular professional teams, playing many of their home matches at Thomond Park. This iconic stadium is not just a venue for domestic matches, but also a stage for European competitions, making it a central hub for rugby enthusiasts.
Football also has its place in the heart of Limerick sports fans, with the city's primary football club, Limerick FC, participating in the League of Ireland. The Markets Field is the traditional home of Limerick FC, providing a historic setting for domestic league and cup competitions.
Limerick is also known for its passion for horse racing, with Limerick Racecourse offering a top-class racing experience. The course schedules numerous fixtures throughout the year, attracting participants and spectators from across the country and beyond.
Visiting Limerick
Sitting at the mouth of the River Shannon in the west of Ireland, Limerick presents a vibrant blend of rich historical treasures and contemporary Irish culture. As a visitor, you can explore the ancient castles and the storied walls of this medieval city, such as the iconic King John's Castle. Immerse yourself in Limerick's bustling marketplaces, savour local gourmet delights, or revel in the lively arts scene at galleries and theatres. The city's lush parks and picturesque riverside walks offer a tranquil escape, making Limerick an alluring destination for travellers seeking a taste of authentic Irish life.
Investec Champions Cup Round 1: Munster Rugby v Bayonne, Thomond Park
The usual efficiency getting to ground and around the stadium. Eats and drinks accessible too. all good. Sadly as Munster supporters we seem to have lost the art of singing our songs before and during the game to help create and maintain an atmosphere. The slow dirge of "Munster, Munster.." is dreadful. SUAF, Zombie, The Fields are great but seems fewer are prepared to sing them collectively. There was a time when the place used be a bear pit for visiting teams. Less so now. Perhaps the Choir could lend a hand......in addition to their polite entertainment ? One reply I received when discussing it with a supporter in the ground was that it was better not to change as it would then become like a soccer match!

Well organised day, staff very very friendly. I would like to see clearer Leaderboards; the boards used were illegible from a distance. Is it possible to have electronic board that provide good visibility. We had to check the RTE site to see an up-to-date Leaderboard.

A fabulous event. Well organised. Noise from Hospitality tent was too loud for those putting in the 18th green.

Wonderful three days (Fri., Sat & Sun.) in my case.
For other fans, follow the quieter groups as well as the large crowds as there is lots of great golf to see.

Parking was well managed. Spectator areas were well managed. Toilets were poorly managed, they were dirty, empty of toilet paper and sanitiser by 12.00, not good enough.
