Visiting Lille
Once a Flemish city, the capital of France’s northern region, Lille, is bursting with beautiful baroque buildings dating all the way back to the 16th century. From Old Lille to the Grand Place, there’s a must-see bourgeois landmark at every turn. The city’s elaborate history is matched by a rich and vibrant culture, thanks to its artistic prominence and large student scene. The city is home to the impressive Palais des Beaux-Arts, a French Renaissance palace with a collection of art that can only be beaten by Paris’ Louvre, as well as the Lille Museum of Modern Art and other excellent galleries. Although there is so much to see and do in Lille, it’s all too easy to simply indulge in its gastronomy, bars, and entertainment.
