Lille Olympique Sporting Club – commonly shortened to LOSC Lille or simply to Lille – is a French professional football club based in Lille and currently playing in the country’s top tier Ligue 1. The club plays home games at Stade Pierre-Mauroy.
Founded in September 1944 as a merger between Olympique Lillois and SC Fives, Lille had some success from the mid-40s to the mid-50s but suffered a decline in the second half of the century. By the end of the 1990s, the club began to see success again and promotion back to the top (not to mention European football). Since then, Lille has enjoyed sustained good form and recently defied the financial odds by beating Paris Saint-Germain to the title in 2020/21.
