The Chicago Marathon is an annual marathon sporting event in Chicago, Illinois, USA, and is a World Athletics Platinum Label marathon and 1 of the 6 World Marathon Majors along with Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, and New York.
Chicago marathon races were held annually from 1905 to the 1920s, but the first race in the present series occurred in September 1977. It became among the fastest-growing modern-marathon road races in the world, due in part to its fast and flat course which facilitates the pursuit of personal records and world record performances. The race has achieved its elite status among marathons by developing relationships with sponsors. The race is limited to 45,000 runners and only runners who finish within 6.5 hours are officially timed.
The 2026 marathon will take place on 11 October 2026.
