Matches against the other New Zealand-based Super Rugby Pacific sides, the Chiefs, the Crusaders, the Highlanders, and the Hurricanes, are always highly anticipated by Blues fans.
The Blues, formerly known as the Auckland Blues, is a rugby union club based in Auckland, New Zealand. The club plays its home matches at the city's iconic Eden Park stadium, and as the team name suggests, its home colour is blue. The team currently competes in Super Rugby Pacific.
The Blues franchise was founded in 1996 to represent the Auckland, Counties Manukau, and Thames Valley rugby unions, ahead of the inaugural Super 12 season - although today the side instead represents Auckland, North Harbour, and Northland.
The club found success in the new league instantly, winning the inaugural competition in 1996, and defending the title in 1997. In 1998, the Blues again reached the final, however fell to a 13-20 defeat to the Crusaders.
In 2003, the Blues won a third Super Rugby title, and in 2021 won the abridged Super Rugby Trans-Tasman competition, defeating the Highlanders in the final. The Auckland side made the Super Rugby Pacific final a year later, but lost-out to the Crusaders, 7-21.
The home venue of Blues is Eden Park in Auckland. Away games will usually be played at the rival team's home venue.
Blues tickets typically go on sale several weeks before each match. At the beginning of the season, when the Super Rugby Pacific schedule is announced, tickets for the first games of the season go on sale; further ticket sales then open throughout the season, at regular intervals.
Tickets for Blues home games can be bought online or in-person, at the stadium ticket office. Purchasing tickets online is however normally the best and easiest means of securing tickets, as there is likely to be a wider range of tickets available in advance of match day; purchasing tickets upon arrival may mean there is less choice, and tickets may even be sold out. Koobit provides links to purchase tickets online directly from official suppliers and resellers.
Blues home games are usually held at Eden Park, which is located in the city of Auckland. As the stadium is located in an urban area, there are multiple options when it comes to nearby car parking. Parking options and other venue travel information, including public transport connections, can be found on the Eden Park page as well as by clicking through to a specific event and viewing the Travel & Parking tab.
As Blues home fixtures are generally staged in Auckland, there is a good range of accommodation options in the vicinity, as one would expect from any city.
