With a list of former champions that includes the likes of Steve Davis, Stephen Hendry, Jimmy White, and Alex Higgins, the UK Championship is one of the most sought-after prizes in world snooker. A feature of the game since 1977, the event returns for the 48th time this weekend, launching an action-packed stretch of the World Snooker Tour (WST) that will culminate with the World Snooker Championship in April.
In 2024, the UK Championship returns to York Barbican, where a knowledgeable crowd will welcome, once again, some of snooker’s living greats. Among the favourites for this year’s competition are World Number 1 Judd Trump, World Number 2 Kyren Wilson, 2-time winner Mark Selby, and 3-time winner Ding Junhui. Heading up the field will be 2023 UK Champion and 8-time winner Ronnie O-Sullivan, who will be looking to earn his 24th Triple Crown title, and further solidify his position as the best snooker player of all-time.
The 2024 UK Championship will begin tomorrow (Saturday 23 November), with play continuing throughout the week before the tournament’s conclusion on Sunday 1 December. Most seats for the event were snapped up quickly, but a number of official supplier tickets remain available for midweek sessions, while reseller tickets can be found for most days.
With the UK Championship imminent, the Masters scheduled for January, and the World Snooker Championship in April, there’s a lot for snooker fans to look forward to over the next few months, and it all begins this weekend in York.
