It’s set to be a big month in women’s golf, with the world’s best currently in the United Kingdom for the Women’s Scottish Open, the Women’s Open, and the ISPS Handa World Invitational. If that wasn’t enough, the LPGA Tour will then be returning to North America for the CPKC Women’s Open – Canada's national championship – from 24-27 August at Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club in Vancouver.
After a 2-year absence in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the CKPC Women’s Open returned to the calendar last year to a great deal of fanfare. The 2022 edition was won by South Africa’s Paula Reto, who triumphed by a single shot ahead of Nelly Korda and Hye-Jin Choi to earn her first LPGA Tour victory in what was her 157th start.
The tournament will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2023, having been founded in 1973. Remarkably, there has been just one Canadian winner of the event since home favourite Jocelyne Bourassa came out on top in the inaugural competition. That winner was Brooke Henderson, who lifted the trophy back in 2018 to the delight of the partisan crowd.
Henderson kicked off the 2023 LPGA Tour season with a victory at the Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions. Although she’s only managed 2 top-10 finishes since then, the 2-time major-winner will be eager to raise her game back on home soil.
General admission Grounds tickets for the practice rounds start at just CAD $28 (USD $21), while for the tournament rounds, they start at CAD $59 (USD $45). There are a range of hospitality experiences, with prices starting at CAD $143 (USD $108).
