The countdown to one of the UK's most prestigious horse racing events has officially begun as tickets for the 2025 Betfred Derby Festival at Epsom Downs Racecourse are now on sale. Renowned for its rich history, high-octane racing, and fashionable social scene, the Epsom Derby is a premier date in the British sporting calendar. Scheduled for 6-7 June 2025, the 2-day festival promises another thrilling celebration of equestrian excellence, entertainment, and tradition.
The Epsom Derby: A British Sporting Tradition
The Epsom Derby, often referred to simply as "The Derby," is one of the oldest and most esteemed horse races in the world. First conceived in 1779, it remains the centrepiece of the Festival, drawing crowds of racing enthusiasts, celebrities, not to mention members of the British Royal Family. Its unique track, with challenging undulations and a tight finish, makes it a true test of horse and jockey.
The festival comprises 2 days of racing: Ladies Day (or Oaks Day) on Friday, a celebration of glamour and style, followed by Derby Day on Saturday. The Derby is the highlight, featuring the best 3-year-old thoroughbreds from around the world competing for one of the sport’s most coveted prizes. Friday’s Oaks is the fillies’ equivalent and both races contribute to the 5 British Classics.
