The Cricket World Cup is back!
It’s been just over 4 years since Jos Buttler removed the bails in a super over to earn England an emotional World Cup Final victory at Lord’s. Though World Cup wins on home turf are rare, the India Cricket Team also achieved the feat in 2011, defeating Sri Lanka in the Final.
Back then, it was the likes of MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, and Sachin Tendulkar that helped the Men in Blue secure a place in immortality. This time round, as the World Cup returns to the country for the first time in 12 years, India’s hopes rest upon talented superstars like Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Rohit Sharma.
However, while raucous home crowds will expect victory in every game, Australia, England, Pakistan and the rest of the world’s best cricket sides will all be out to win the trophy for themselves.
A Cricket World Cup in India is truly an event like no other, and that is thanks, in large part, to the fans. Passionate and knowledgeable, Indian cricket fans create an incredible atmosphere at every match, and after 6 years without a trophy for Team India, desire to see their side win the title in 2023 will be higher than ever.
India’s cricketing infrastructure will add to the occasion too. The success of the Indian Premier League has proved lucrative, and the country now boasts some of the biggest and best stadiums in the sport – none more so than Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, which can hold up to 132,000 spectators, making it the largest cricket venue in the world. At the 2023 tournament, the gargantuan arena will host 5 matches, including a highly-anticipated clash between India and Pakistan, England v Australia, and, of course, the Cricket World Cup Final.

In 2023, the Cricket World Cup will take place at venues across India, in cities from Mumbai to Dharamshala, between 5 October – 19 November. Tickets begin at around INR ₹500 (GBP £5), but with so much demand for matches across the nation, fans will need to move fast to secure their seats. While most tickets are on sale now, releases for matches involving India are to be staggered over the next 2 weeks to help manage online traffic for official suppliers.
On sale dates for India matches are as follows:
- 31 August – India matches at Chennai, Delhi and Pune
- 1 September – India matches at Dharamsala, Lucknow and Mumbai
- 2 September – India matches at Bengaluru and Kolkata
- 3 September – India matches at Ahmedabad
- 15 September – Semifinals and Final
