The WTA Finals brings the women's tennis season to an explosive close as the world's most elite players battle it out for this prestigious title. The tournament was founded in 1972 in Florida, known then as the Championship, and part of the Virginia Slims Circuit tour. Since then, the event has travelled the world before settling in Shenzhen Bay Sports Center in China in 2019.
This indoor, hard court tournament features the world's 8 top-ranking singles players and doubles teams, who play 3 round-robin matches to knock-out their opponents and earn their place in the semifinals, and then the final.
The WTA Finals is considered the most important indoor tennis competition on the women's tour and the second-highest tier event after the 4 Grand Slam tournaments. It is a rare opportunity to see this highly-select group of top female players go head-to-head, but the event is also known for bringing a fun and relaxed atmosphere to tennis, as the players look forward to some respite at the end of a hard-fought season.
In recent years the WTA Finals has taken place in many cities, including Los Angeles, Munich, Shenzhen, Zapopan, Fort Worth, and Cancún. The WTA Finals will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, through 2026.
