The United States Women’s Rugby Union Team won the inaugural Rugby World Cup in 1991, and reached the next 2 semifinals, but its roots stretch back into the 1970s; various collegiate and invitational teams raised the profile of women’s rugby in the USA, helping to secure the game’s existence in the next decade and beyond.
In the 21st century, the “Eagles” have been comparatively less successful internationally, but still produce athletic and competitive rugby. The Eagles finished fourth at the 2017 World Cup, gaining them automatic qualification for the 2021 edition.
