Weston Homes Stadium (London Road)

London Road, currently known as the Weston Homes Stadium as part of a sponsorship deal, is a football stadium located in Peterborough, England. It hosts the home fixtures of Peterborough United.  

📜 History

The venue opened in 1913, at the time consisting of a pitch accompanied by a wooden stand that could only house 250 spectators. From 1923 it was home to Peterborough & Fletton United; the club was liquidated in 1932 and replaced by Peterborough United 2 years later, and it has been the home of the Posh ever since.

United almost had their lease at the ground terminated amid financial difficulties during the Second World War with another sports club coming close to taking their place, but in 1942 a pair of individual paid the £50 rent owed by the club to keep them at the ground. Around a decade later, Peterborough purchased the club from the council and began significant redevelopment efforts, adding new stands, terraces, and floodlights.

Further improvements were made in the 1990s after the Posh reached English football's second tier. As part of their renovations, the club purchased second-hand seats from Leicester City and Millwall, who were redeveloping their existing stadium and moving into a new ground, respectively.

Between 2014 and 2019, it was known as ABAX Stadium.
