📜 History

Priestfield opened in 1893 shortly after Gillingham – known then as New Brompton FC – were formed. Until 1947 it was known as the Athletic Ground, before being renamed Priestfield Road.

In 1927, a greyhound race track was installed around the pitch. The stadium underwent significant redevelopment over the decades, most notably in the 1950s and 1990s.

Brighton & Hove Albion became temporary tenants at Priestfield for 2 seasons in 1997 after the Seagulls' board of directors controversially sold their previous home, the Goldstone Ground.
