Driving is the most popular way to reach the venue because of its rural location and free car parking. If you’re looking to use public transport, connect at Newmarket town and take a shuttle bus or taxi to the racecourse.
Below you can find general information on travel and parking for Newmarket Racecourse July Course. Individual events may have additional/restricted services available, and so we recommend clicking through to the event and viewing the Travel & Parking tab for event-specific information.
There is an ample amount of public parking at the venue which is free for all attendees of the race meeting. Anyone parking on the verges approaching the July Course will be ticketed or have their vehicle towed. If you choose to park in Newmarket town centre, please do not park in private spaces or block driveways. Traffic around the course builds up at peak times, so early arrival is advised to avoid delays getting into the venue. The course also keeps its bars open after the last races on racedays in order to stagger racegoers exiting the course.
Accessible parking is available via Gate 4 for Grandstand & Paddock and Family Enclosure ticket holders. Premier or Grandstand & Paddock enclosure ticket holders should use Gate 2. If extra assistance is required from your car to the course entrance, car parking attendants can radio for a golf buggy.
Coach parking is free. Private Hire coaches should enter the racecourse via Gate 4 from A1303. Coach drivers must complete a Newmarket Racecourses Coach Driver Security Form. If a coach leaves the site and comes back for pick-up, the coach must be back in the car park no later than half an hour before the start of the last race.
A taxi rank is located outside the Premier Entrance 1, in front of the white car park. Newmarket taxis are recognisable for their black and yellow appearance.
There is a designated pick-up and drop-off area within the racecourse car parks for private hire cars and minibuses (15 seats or less). All vehicles using this area must enter the racecourse via Gate 2 and turn immediately right where they will be able to wait in designated waiting bays for 15 minutes. All vehicles must then exit via Gate 3 as there is a one-way system in operation. This area will be signed for pedestrians and vehicles.
For Newmarket Nights and Summer Saturday Live racedays (i.e. those followed by live music), the meeting point for all pickups, including private hire, is located via Gate 2 in the white car park outside Premier Entrance 1. It is best to ask your taxi driver to park up and meet you outside Premier Entrance 1 in person.
Cambridge is considered an affluent city and many of its central hotels reflect that. However, there is a full range of accommodation styles and prices to suit every taste and budget.
A range of food and drink options are available to buy at the course from the Premier Enclosure's Mozart's bistro on a first-come, first-served basis to the bars and street food outlets of the Grandstand & Paddock Enclosure.
No food or drink can be brought into the hospitality, Premier, Champions Lawn, or Grandstand & Paddock enclosures. Picnics are popular and can be consumed in car parks or in the Garden Enclosure (when it is open). Alcohol can only be brought into the Garden Enclosure with a substantial picnic and is limited to one bottle of wine or Champagne per person or 4 cans of beer, cider, or pre-mixed aperitif per person.
There is a free shuttle bus service from Newmarket town centre and Newmarket Train Station on racedays. This service does not need to be pre-booked.
Outrider coach services can be booked when purchasing admission tickets. These services provide return travel from Cambridge Train Station, Bury St. Edmunds Train Station, and Ely (via Soham & Fordham) for most racedays, and from Royston Train Station for evening concerts.
The July Course can be reached by the Cambridge/Ipswich Line operated by Abellio Greater Anglia. Get off at Newmarket Train Station and take the free shuttle service from outside the train station to the racecourse.
