The Supercopa de España is a Spanish football competition that sees the previous season's league champions and runners-up take on the previous season's Copa del Rey winners and runners-up in a mini-tournament. If one team fulfills more than one of these criteria, the team that took third place in the league will take the fourth allocation in the tournament. There are 2 semifinals - one with the La Liga winners against the Copa del Rey runners-up and the other with the Copa del Rey winners against the La Liga runners-up (or third-place) - to determine the 2 teams to reach the final.
Following the standard rules of football, a game is 90 minutes long with 2 x 45-minute halves and an interval in between. There can be additional time added on at the end of either half to make up for time lost during gameplay such as for injuries, goals, or referee reviews.
If the match is still tied at the end of the additional time, the teams will go on to play 30 minutes of extra time with 2 x 15-minute halves and a short interval in between. If it is still tied at the end of extra time, there will be a penalty shootout to determine who wins the cup.
