St Johnstone FC are a professional football club based in Perth, Scotland. Their home ground is McDiarmid Park.
St Johnstone were founded in 1884. Like many football clubs formed around this time, they originated as a cricket club seeking a winter sport to keep them occupied outside the cricket season, and the following year they were officially established as a separate entity from the cricket team.
Their name holds historical significance; the church at the centre of Perth was dedicated to St John the Baptist, and as a result the city was known in the medieval period as "St John's Toun" or "Saint Johnstoun." The centre of St Johnstone's badge incorporates the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) symbol associated with John the Baptist.
The Saints spent much of their history as a "yo-yo club," oscillating between the top 2 divisions, but they've enjoyed some success in recent years.
As well as established themselves as regulars in the top-flight, they won the Scottish Challenge Cup for the first time in 2008 before winning their maiden Scottish Cup in 2014. In 2021, they completed an historic cup double by winning the Scottish Cup and the Scottish League Cup.
The home venue of St Johnstone FC is McDiarmid Park in Perth. Away games will usually be played at the rival team's home venue.
