Founded in 1995, Sporting Kansas City were 1 of the 10 founding members of Major League Soccer.
History
The club started life as Kansas City Wiz, before changing their name to Kansas City Wizards after their first season; they would keep this name until 2011, when they adopted the European-style naming convention "Sporting."
Kansas marked the turn of the millennium by winning the Supporters' Shield and MLS Cup double in 2000, and they would lift the latter again in 2013. Over the years they've also collected multiple US Open Cups, the first of which came in 2004.
The team ply their trade in the Western Conference, but due to the ongoing expansion of MLS they spent 10 seasons in the Eastern Conference between 2005 and 2015.
