Founded as The Wednesday Football Club in 1967, Sheffield Wednesday are among the world's oldest professional football teams. They were formed by members of The Wednesday Cricket Club, which is believed to have originated in 1820.
The Owls were founding members of the Football Alliance, a short-lived rival to the Football League that ran from 1889 to 1892, and they were its inaugural champions.
They would go on to win multiple First Division titles and FA Cups in the decades that followed, but success has been much harder to come by in recent times, aside from a League Cup win in 1991.
