Queen & King of the Court is a beach volleyball tournament with a twist where the constant action on court provides an overwhelmingly thrilling spectator experience.
In principle, the well-known beach volleyball format is used, but 5 teams face each other in a kind of round trip to find out which team is the "King (or Queen) of the Court". It is a fast-paced and exhilarating adaptation of the more typical beach volleyball rules. The event made its international competition debut in Utrecht where Sportworx - in collaboration with the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) - has since continued to develop the concept into an entertaining, competitive, and energetic form of a sport popular the world over.
Format & Scoring
Instead of the regular beach volleyball format of 2 teams competing against each other, there are several teams on court making this a truly absorbing tournament! The game is played in 4 "sessions" of 15 minutes. At the end of each session, the team with the most points wins and the team with the least points steps out. The countdown clock runs down continuously and, as the ball is always on court, there is always something to catch your eye amid the uninterrupted play on the field.
The service is from the “challenger side” to the “king side”, and the challenger can switch to the king side in the event of a successful rally (without receiving a point). If the king side is successful in fending off the challenger's serve, this team receives 1 point and can continue on the king's side. When a rally is over, a waiting team moves up on the challenger side.
The top 10 teams from the ranking that is created by combining the results from the King of the Court events across the series will be placed automatically in the Finals. A total of 30 teams (15 men's and 15 women's) will play for the titles of Queens and Kings of 2024 and the prize money.
