The Sooners are the football team of the University of Oklahoma in Norman. They compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the NCAA and play in the Big 12 Conference.
Oklahoma is one of the most successful college football programs ever, with the most wins and the highest winning percentage of any team since 1945. The Sooners have won 7 national championships and 50 conference championships, as well as holding the record for the longest winning streak in Division I history. No other program has seen 4 different coaches each win more than 100 games, and 7 Sooners have won the Heisman Trophy, a joint record.
Oklahoma joined the Big 12 Conference in 1996 and has won 14 conference championships since then, including a streak of 6 straight wins between 2015 and 2020. In 2021, it was announced that the Sooners would be joining the Southeastern Conference (SEC) beginning in 2025.
The Sooners play their home games at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
