Few college rivalries are as fierce as Michigan-Ohio State, with the teams' annual football matchup known simply as "The Game." The Wolverines and the Buckeyes are among the most successful teams in college football history, and games between the pair have frequently been decisive for the the Big Ten title, the Rose Bowl game, and the national championship.
The first meeting between Michigan and Ohio State came in 1897, and the Wolverines won 34-0 in Ann Arbor. Michigan dominated the early decades, until Ohio State finally recorded a win in 1919 and went on a 3-year victory streak. From 1918 until 2020, the teams faced each other every single year without interruption.
In 2006, the #1 Buckeyes hosted the #2 Wolverines in Columbus, Ohio. Both teams went into the game unbeaten, with the Big Ten title and a spot in the BCS National Championship Game on the line. Ohio State won 42-35, in a game so tight and entertaining that it earned the nickname "Game of the Century."
Over the years, the rivalry has seen evenly-matched periods as well as spells of dominance by each team. The Michigan Wolverines won 10 of 13 games between 1985 and 1997, while the Ohio State Buckeyes won 8 in a row from 2012 to 2019.
