Dunedin is home to the Highlanders, a professional rugby team in the Super Rugby league who play home games at the Forsyth Barr Stadium.
Visiting Dunedin
Dunedin is a small but populous city on the east coast of New Zealand's South Island, protected by the 20-km-long Otago Peninsula, a stunningly rugged landmass brimming with native and critically endangered birds and animals. No trip to Dunedin is complete without hiking around the scenic peninsula, visiting the albatross colony at Taiaroa Head, and riding back along the wooden tracks of the old Dunedin Railway to the gingerbread-house-like Railway Station. Dunedin is one of the country’s most historic cities as its excellent natural harbour became a hub for the Scottish during The Otago Gold Rush era in the 1800s. The name ‘Dunedin’ itself derives from its Scottish heritage, as does Larnach Castle, the only castle in the entire country.
Summer Series (July Tests) New Zealand v Australia, Forsyth Barr Stadium
This was our first ever rugby game and we had a fantastic time! Seeing the All Blacks was recommended by 2 friends and it was a thrill to see the best team in the world. We flew all the way from the US and came to Dunedin just to see the game, although we also love the town and your beautiful country. The stadium was amazing, the seats were wonderful, the fans were incredible, the game was beyond exciting! My husband and I couldn’t have asked for anything more! I think I may be an even bigger rugby fan than he is after attending this match.
