Dunedin Stadium is located very close to Dunedin city centre, on the north bank of the Water of Leith. Whilst it is possible to travel to the venue by car, public transport is recommended, especially on match days.
Below you can find general information on travel and parking for Forsyth Barr Stadium. Individual events may have additional/restricted services available, and so we recommend clicking through to the event and viewing the Travel & Parking tab for event-specific information.
Match day traffic around the stadium can be incredibly busy, and the waiting times to exit the roads around the ground can be very long. If you can travel via other means, it is recommended that you do so, however there are parking facilities, should travelling by car be necessary.
On-site
The car park located at the west end of the stadium is available on a pay-and-display basis, on non-match days. However, on match days it is reserved for Forsyth Barr Stadium Membership holders only.
Disabled-accessible parking is also available on-site, including on match days, on a first-come first-serve basis. The main accessible car park is located within the East End car park, between Gates E and F, but there is also overflow parking available on Logan Park Drive. A mobility pass must be displayed at all times, when using either of the accessible parking areas.
Off-site
Off-site parking is available free of charge in the harbour area near at the corner of Wickliffe and Fryatt Street, south of the Water of Leith.
On a non-match day, it can take as little as 5 minutes to travel from central Dunedin to the stadium, however on match days traffic is likely to make this journey slightly longer. On match days, taxis should be pre-booked, as demand is normally very high.
The following public bus routes can be used to get to the stadium:
For visitors travelling from further afield, the decommissioned Dunedin railway station is now a long-distance bus terminus. It is located less than a 1.5 km (18 min) walk away.
Dunedin is one of the larger cities in New Zealand, but not one of the most touristy, meaning there’s a range of premium and affordable accommodation options. Most of the hotels and hostels are pooled in the city centre since its surroundings are largely residential.
There are many food and drink vendors throughout the stadium, providing hot and cold food, and alcoholic and soft beverages. Dunedin Stadium also supports the use of a food ordering app - Food4Me - which can be used to place orders remotely. The app can be used for click and collect orders, or for in-seat deliveries.
Spectators wishing to bring in food from outside may do so, but only if abiding by the following regulations:
Accessibility
There are 3 main accessible entrances to the stadium. One is located at Gate J (at the south stand), and includes lift access to the other levels of the stadium. The other 2 accessible entrances are located at Gates C and E (north stand); both Gates have accessible ramps.
Within the stadium itself, there are approximately 100 accessible viewing bays/seats, each with an adjacent or nearby companion seat. There are also dimpled floor surfaces near all stairways, to aid the mobility of partially-sighted visitors.
Toilets
Disabled toilets are located in both the north and south stands.
Whilst Dunedin railway station is one of the city's most recognisable buildings, regular passenger services to and from the station no longer run regularly, with the exception of special heritage trips for tourists. As such, it is not usually possible to travel to the stadium by train. The station is however still used as a bus terminus - see the Coach & Bus section for more information.
Dunedin Stadium is on the north bank of the Water of Leith, and is only a 350 m (4 min) walk from Otago Yacht Club, which allows visiting boats to occupy its berths - although pre-booking may be necessary.
It can take less than 10 minutes to cycle to the stadium from central Dunedin. There are bike racks immediately outside the stadium.
It is easy to walk to the stadium from central Dunedin. From the city's Octagon plaza, for example, it is just a 1.8 km (22 min) walk.
Forsyth Barr Stadium has a capacity of approximately 30,748. However, the capacity does differ between events depending on the seating configuration.
