The NBA Draft is an annual event in which all 30 NBA teams gather to recruit the next generation of future stars from a pool of top prospects including college basketball and international players.
The draft dates back to 1947, a year on from the creation of the league, and takes place in June each year during the off-season. A total of 60 players are chosen, giving fans the chance to see future MVPs, All-Stars, and Hall-of-Famers.
Notable drafts have included 1984 (which featured Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, John Stockton, and Akeem Olajuwon), 1996 (Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson, Steve Nash), and 2003 (LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, and Chris Bosh).
The 2024 draft top picks included Zaccharie Risacher and Alexandre Sarr. In 2024, the draft was split over 2 nights, with the first round taking place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and the second round being held at ESPN’s Seaport District Studios in Manhattan. Tickets were only available for the first night.
