Melbourne Renegades have been part of the Big Bash League since its inaugural season in 2011–12. Famous players to have pulled on the team's red and black jersey include Ben Stokes, Aaron Finch, and Muttiah Muralitharan.
Melbourne Renegades have won the Big Bash once, in 2019, defeating their Melbourne rivals, the Stars, by 13 runs. In 2022/23, the franchise finished the BBL group stage in third place, losing to eventual finalists Brisbane Heat in the Knockout game.
