About Lakers vs Bulls
Although there are several other teams who command a bigger rivalry with the Los Angeles Lakers, the Chicago Bulls are one of the only franchises in the NBA who can rival them in terms of global recognition. The pair first met back in October 1966; 2 of the Bulls’ first 5 games upon joining the NBA as an expansion team came against the Lakers, and they won both. Indeed, the Bulls are the only NBA team to win their first 3 games as an expansion franchise, and this feat was accomplished in the first of those victories over the Lakers.
The 2 sides were most notably pitted against one another in the 1991 NBA Finals. The Lakers had been a dominant force in the 1980s thanks to stars such as Magic Johnson, but the Bulls – led by none other than Michael Jordan – were on the rise. The Lakers narrowly won Game 1 of their series 93-91, but a clean sweep from the Bulls in the next 4 games earned them their first NBA Championship, to which they added 5 more titles by 1998.
