Liverpool FC Women are a women's professional football team based in Liverpool, England. Their home ground is Prenton Park, although like many top women's teams they will play select fixtures at the home of their male counterparts, in this case at the iconic Anfield.
📜 Liverpool FC Women History
The team was founded in 1989, known then as Newton LFC, by former England midfielder Liz Deighan. In 1991, they changed their name to Knowsley United WFC and became founding members of the Premier League National Division.
In 1994, the team reached the first of 3 consecutive FA Cup finals, but they would finish as runners-up on each occasion. That same year, they became affiliated with Liverpool and became known as Liverpool Ladies; they rebranded as Liverpool FC Women in 2018.
Despite an up-and-down period in the 2000s, the Reds were among the 8 teams to play in the inaugural Women's Super League season in 2011, and in 2013 and 2014 they won back-to-back league titles after becoming the first women's team in the country to turn fully professional.
