📜 Leicester City Women History
Leicester were founded in 2004, and by 2008 they had reached the 2nd tier of English women's football on the back of 4 consecutive promotions in their first 4 seasons.
Amid restructuring of the women's football pyramid following the formation of the Women's Super League in 2010 and then a relegation in 2013, the Foxes languished outside the 2nd tier until 2018 when they were 1 of 5 new teams awarded a licence to play in the Women's Championship.
In 2020, the club was purchased by King Power, owners of the Leicester City men's team, becoming fully professional for the first time. Despite sharing their name, the clubs were not officially affiliated previously and had co-operated on an informal basis.
The following year they won promotion to the WSL for the first time.
