Italy’s first international was a seldom-seen 0-0 draw, against France in 1985. “The Blues’”, like several women’s teams, were then unduly starved of test rugby until the 1990s, when they recorded their first competitive win in a World Cup match against Sweden. Since then, Italy has appeared at 3 more Rugby World Cups, and has also qualified for the 2021 competition!
The side has also exhibited some success in other tournaments – the Italians have won 3 Rugby Europe Women’s Championships, behind only Spain, France, and England!
