The Tattersalls Irish Guineas Festival – often referred to as the Irish Guineas Weekend – is a thrilling flat racing meeting for thoroughbred horses held at the famous Curragh Racecourse in County Kildare, Ireland.
The Irish 2,000 Guineas was inaugurated in 1921, a year before the establishment of the 1,000 Guineas. The former is a race for 3-year-old horses and the latter is specifically for 3-year-old female horses. They are the Irish equivalent of the Guineas races held at Newmarket’s Rowley Mile and the field often includes runners who raced in the English version earlier in spring. The Curragh’s Festival is a celebration of the sport in Ireland as well as an opportunity to soak up the party atmosphere.
As it features the first Irish Classics of the flat racing season, the Irish Guineas Festival marks the exciting start of a thrilling summer of speed and stamina.
