About Dexcom Stadium

The Sportsground, also referred to as the Galway Sportsground, Connacht Rugby Stadium, and the Galway Greyhound Stadium, is a multi-purpose stadium in Galway which is primarily used to host rugby union matches and greyhound races. It is the home venue of Connacht Rugby.

📜 History

The Sportsground opened in 1927, thanks in large part to the efforts of former Ireland international, Connacht native, and then-Connacht Rugby club president Henry J. Anderson. The stadium became the home of Connacht Rugby and has continued to host the club's home matches ever since.

The Sportsground has also hosted fixtures involving invitational and age-grade Irish sides, as well as association football (soccer) matches, namely a select number of Galway United fixtures. Gaelic games events have also taken place at the venue, including camogie and hurling matches. The Sportsground also remains a regular host venue for greyhound racing.

The Sportsground has a spectator capacity of just over 8,000. The venue is comprised of the following grandstands and terraces:

Clan Terrace - covered standing terrace which extends along the north-east sideline
College Road - uncovered standing terrace located behind the posts
Main Stand Terrace - covered standing terrace located along the south-west sideline
Main Stand (Seated) - covered all-seater stand located on the south-west sideline
Bohermore Terrace - uncovered standing terrace located behind the posts

🍔 Food & Drink

The Sportsground's main refreshments area is the Clan Bar, located behind the Clan Terrace, but there are also food and drink outlets located in and around the Main Stand.

Visitors to the Sportsground are not permitted to bring in any glass containers, cans, or bottles.
