About Virgin Media Park

Musgrave Park is a stadium in Cork, Ireland, primarily used for rugby union matches. It is one of the home stadiums of United Rugby Championship (URC) side Munster.

📜 History

The Musgrave Park site was purchased by the Irish Rugby Football Union's (IRFU) Munster branch in 1938, and officially opened in 1940, following the installation of 2 pitches and a pavilion. The ground is named after Jimmy Musgrave, a former IRFU president. Early tenants at Musgrave Park included Dolphins Rugby Football Club and Sundays Well Rugby Football Club, 2 Cork-based rugby union teams who still use the venue today.

Musgrave Park's stands were gradually expanded, allowing Munster Rugby to begin using the ground for some of its home games - though the club also plays at Thomond Park in Limerick. Munster boast an impressive record at Musgrave Park against international touring sides, including a draw against New Zealand and 3 wins over Australia, most recently in 1992.

Aside from rugby, other events held at the stadium include Cork City's 1991 draw with Bayern Munich in the UEFA Cup, and concerts by the likes of Liam Gallagher and Lauryn Hill.

North-West & South-West Terraces - standing terraces located at either end of the West Stand

East Terrace - partially-covered standing terrace located along the east sideline
South Terrace - uncovered standing terrace located behind the posts
