Visiting Cork
Cork is a historic merchant’s city located on Ireland’s south coast loved for its rich concentration of that famous ‘Irish charm’. Since its first settlement in the 10th century, Cork has been the backdrop of many tumultuous events including the Black Death, War of the Roses, and most recently, the War of Independence when the city centre was almost entirely burnt down by the English. Despite this, the proudly Irish city’s streets still display a wonderful wealth of history. Best of all are the medieval strongholds of Blackrock Castle and Blarney Castle, home to the legendary Blarney Stone which is said to give you the ‘gift of the gab’ when you kiss it. As well as its history and architecture, Cork is an ideal destination to immerse in Irish cuisine, music, and its famous pub culture.
