Playing in the Western Conference, Houston Dynamo are a Major League Soccer football club.
History
Houston Dynamo were founded as an expansion team in 2005 after the owners relocated the San Jose Earthquakes; the Earthquakes franchise and its history remained in San Jose, however.
They were initially known as Houston 1836 after the founding date of the city, but this was quickly changed after the local Mexican community voiced opposition to the use of the date of the Texas Revolution.
Some impressive early success saw the club record back-to-back MLS Cups in their first 2 seasons, and they topped the Western Conference in their 3rd campaign. They also won their first US Open Cup title in 2018.
From 2011-2014, the club moved to the Eastern Conference after the arrivals of the Vancouver Whitecaps and Portland Timbers in MLS.
