Hellas Verona Football Club - more commonly known as Hellas Verona FC or simply Hellas Verona - is an Italian professional football club based in Verona, Veneto and currently playing in the country's top tier Serie A. The club plays home matches at Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi.
The club was founded in 1903 by some high school students and was named "Hellas" due to a request from the professor of classics. To draw attention and popularity to a sport that was not so much in the region's public eye at that time, some early games were played in the city's Roman amphitheatre to show the game at its most exciting. Although Hellas Verona has been up and down the Italian league system, the club saw a run of success in the 1970s and 1980s and won its only scudetto in the 1984/85 season.
